Pen-y-cae Quiz – The answers

1. The etched window shows the date that the Victorian pub, The Cross Foxes was established.

2. Ysgol Penycae Community Primary School has a large sign on the wall on the roadside with this symbol engraved into it.

3. Capel y Groes has these metalworks on each apex of the roof. The chapel was built in 1863.

4. The ornate chimney can be found on the rear of The Old Sweet Shop on Hill Street / Stryt yr Allt

5. The ornate decoration can be found on the Zion (Groes) English Baptist Church

6. The light is above the main entrance to The Black Horse pub (currently Yama Oriental Cuisine)

7. The entrance to Mammoth Grove has a brick and stone gate post on the right with the word Grove etched. I assume there was once one on the right with the word Mammoth etched. Please correct me if I am wrong.

8. The foundation stone appears on the wall of St. Thomas’ Church Hall was laid by Lady Williams Wynne in 1877.

9. The stone steps form a walkway from Stryt yr Allt / Hill Street to a pathway to Maes y Nant

10. The railings are part of War Memorial commemorating the 45 local people who fell during the First World War.
